Colton Brady, 7, from Mohnton, PA is one guy who loves raisins! He loves baking with raisins, doing science experiments with raisins, and even tinkering with boxes of raisins. When her mother, Heather Brady, (co-founder of Do It Local Berks), saw an opportunity for kids ages 7-12 to earn a spot on Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination; she knew her son would be excited.

Heather has encouraged Colton to make with recycled materials since he was little. Boxes of raisins are one of their favorite items to reuse. They also like to experience Dancing Raisin Water. (If you haven’t done this with your kids, you should! It’s so easy yet mind-blowing.)

Colton also enjoys helping his mother with marketing ideas for their community’s children’s book sharing boxes across Berks County as well as their Family Meal PopUp fundraisers. “He is full of creativity and enthusiasm for life, which makes him the best brainstorming partner!” explains Heather. “In many ways, Colton is my right hand when it comes to developing and developing ideas for Do It Local! Sun-Maid would be really lucky to have him on their Board of Imagination. The next project What this mother-son duo is working on for Do It Local Berks is a partnership with the Children’s Home of Reading called Exploration Eats, and we bet Colton’s love of raisins will play a major part in the program!

When asked why he would make a great addition to Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination, Colton exclaimed, “Because I love inventing games, having fun, and spreading happiness and kindness!”

Colton will tell you that his father, Patrick Brady, senior IT specialist at Herbein + Company, Inc; is his go-to for cooking with raisins. “Dad and I love watching cooking shows, especially Kids Baking Championship!” Raisins are a fun ingredient for our home cooking contests.

Colton made it through the early rounds of Sun-Maid competition and is now a finalist to earn one of 5 spots on the Sun-Maid Imagination Board – part of her Sun-Maid’s marketing team for a year . Additionally, he will win his school, Brecknock Elementary School, Governor Mifflin School District $5,000 as well as a year’s supply of Sun-Maid snacks for all students.
